This is a fellowship that is internal to NC State. You must be nominated by a DGP. If you are interested and eligible, contact Pam. Must be US Citizen or permanent resident.

The GAANN Fellowship is available for doctoral students who have interest in becoming university teachers or researchers. Students in a master’s program leading to a doctorate are also eligible. Fellows must pursue an interdisciplinary course of study, combining a major in one of the participating departments/programs with a minor and research project in molecular biotechnology. The Fellowship is awarded based on academic performance, upon the recommendation of the student’s department and approval by the Graduate School and the Fellowship Program Selections Committee. The stipend level is determined in accordance with the student’s financial need.

For a student to be considered for this fellowship, it is critical that you explain in detail in your nomination 1) the student’s proposed or current research project and 2) how this research is related to the area of molecular biotechnology.

Note the average credentials for the 19 GAANN Fellows selected since 2004 are:

GPA 3.65
GRE V 611
GRE Q 704
GRE A 707
GRE AW 5.0

Nominees must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States.

The Fellowship includes an annual stipend of up to $30,000 (depending on financial need), in-state tuition and fees, health insurance, and an allowance for books, supplies and professional travel. The student’s department covers tuition remission for out-of-state fellows. Note that the average GAANN stipend for the past several years is: $21,500.
