Faculty Position in Statistics

Position: The Department of Management Science and Statistics at the University of Texas at San Antonio College of Business invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Associate/Full Professor of Statistics level, beginning Fall 2006, pending budgetary approval. Preferred areas of specialization are statistics, biostatistics, or bioinformatics. The department offers a B.S. degree in Statistics, a Minor in Applied Statistics, a B.B.A. in Actuarial Science, and a M.S. in Statistics. In addition, a Ph.D. in Applied Statistics/Demography with program tracks in Biostatistics and Applied Demography has been approved by the Board of Regents with an anticipated start date of Fall 2006. Responsibilities include teaching doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate courses offered at both UTSA’s 1604 Campus and Downtown Campus, occasionally at night, as well as scholarly research, external funding, and university service. The salary and supporting start-up package are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Required qualifications for Associate Professor: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Statistics or related field; the ability to contribute to the department’s proposed doctoral program and the university’s doctoral programs in other disciplines including dissertation supervision; a record of effective teaching and program support; a record of extramural funding; and a continuing body of research in highly regarded scholarly journals.

Required qualifications for Professor: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Statistics or related field; the ability to contribute to the department’s proposed doctoral program and the university’s doctoral programs in other disciplines including dissertation supervision; an outstanding record of scholarly research and program support to include extramural funding and demonstrated leadership in the field; and the ability to mentor junior faculty.

The University: The College of Business at UTSA is one of the 40 largest business schools in the nation, is AACSB accredited, and offers a variety of master’s programs as well as Ph.D. programs in four areas. The COB ranks second in the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded to Hispanics in the United States. UTSA is a comprehensive public metropolitan university serving approximately 27,000 students on two campuses in San Antonio. It has the express goal of reaching a Carnegie Classification of doctoral/research extensive (Carnegie I) by 2010. UTSA is home to the Texas Data Center, and offers opportunities for collaborative research with the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, as well as the Southwest Research Institute and a broad and growing industrial base. San Antonio is located at the edge of the scenic Texas Hill Country and offers amenities of a major metropolitan area as well as a multicultural environment. With a population of over 1.14 million, San Antonio is within a few hours drive of Dallas, Houston, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Mexican border.
Department of Management Science and Statistics: The department has 15 tenured/tenure-track faculty including seven statisticians and one demographer.
