For students currently enrolled in a graduate program at NCSU
This page details options for degrees in Statistics. If you
are not currently enrolled in a graduate program at NCSU, please see
our page for prospective students. There is a separate
information page for
graduate minors in Statistics.
Master of
Statistics en route
The Master of Statistics can be earned en route (on the way to) a PhD
in Statistics or any other graduate program. You MUST
transfer to the Statistics program to receive the Master of
Statistics en route. Typically the transfer will occur in the fall semester before the student completes
the Master's degree in the spring. Requests will be evaluated once per semester, not on a rolling basis.
The deadlines for
these evaluation cycles are January 31st and October 15th. Requests are best made earlier in a student's
program to allow time to choose courses and transfer to the department.
The requirements for
the Master of Statistics can be found in the
Statistics Department Graduate Program
Handbook. In order to complete the degree, send an
email to the
Statistics
DGP with the following information
- a formal request to complete the Master of Statistics en
route
- your current program and status (e.g., 2nd year PhD student
in Forestry)
- a completed Plan of Work for the Master of Statistics
attached as a Word doc (without signatures)
- your NCSU transcript (attach a PDF from PackTracks)
Ultimately, both the Statistics DGP
and DGP of your current program would need to approve the request.
Co-major degrees
in Statistics
Co-major Master's and PhD degrees in Statistics are available.
Please see the
Statistics Department Graduate Program
Handbook for requirements of these degrees. To
request a co-major curriculum, send an email to the
Statistics DGP
with the following information
- a formal request to complete a co-major Master's or PhD
degree
- your current program and status (e.g., 2nd year PhD student
in Forestry)
- a completed Plan of Work for the Master's or PhD degree attached as a Word doc
(without signatures)
- your NCSU transcript (attach a PDF from PackTracks)
Ultimately, both the Statistics DGP
and DGP of your current program would need to approve the request.
Transferring to
the Statistics Graduate Program
If you are currently enrolled in a graduate program at NC State,
you may request a transfer to the statistics program. Please
see the
Statistics Department Graduate Program
Handbook for requirements of degrees in Statistics.
Send an email to the
Statistics
DGP with the following information
- a formal request to transfer
- your current program and status (e.g., 2nd year PhD student
in Forestry)
- the semester you would like to transfer
- your NCSU transcript (attach a PDF from PackTracks)
- a short (less than one page) personal statement
about why you want to transfer
You do NOT need to submit an application through the graduate school.
The Statistics DGP will request information from the DGP of
your current program to make an admission decision. Note that
this means that your current program will be made aware that you have
requested the transfer. The admissions director of the
Statistics program will respond to the transfer request.
Ultimately, both the Statistics DGP and DGP of your current
program would need to approve the request.
Requests for transfers will be evaluated once per semester, not on a rolling basis.
The deadlines for
these evaluation cycles are January 31st and October 15th.
