Statistics Department Winbugs Solutions

The following steps will allow you to access the windows servers to run R and Winbugs simulations. You can currently log in to the cluster 1 time, but you may run multiple programs with the 1 login.

You can begin a remote desktop session by opening your start menu, selecting All Programs, Accessories, then Remote Desktop Connection. The remote desktop connection icon may be on the desktop if you are logged into the statistics lab computers. The program will open and you should enter winbugs3.stat.ad.ncsu.edu as the Computer name as shown below:

Remote Desktop Login Screen Server Selection

If you are accessing the cluster from the stat lab computers, you may not have to enter your username and password. If you are accessing the cluster from home or from campus machines, you will have to enter your stat username and password that you use to log into the stat lab machines. The login prompt will look like the following:

Remote Desktop Login Screen Username and Password

You must enter ST\ before your username or it will not accept your login. For example, I would type ST\clwaddel into the username field. Remember that you need to enter your stat password and not your campus password for this login (although you may have made both passwords the same). You will now be logged in to the cluster and can start your jobs.

If you need to leave the program running, simply click the "x" button in the top right corner to close the remote desktop program. Your program will continue to run on the server and you can log back in at any time in the exact same way that you did the first time and it will automatically connect to the server you were on previously. When you are done using the server, you should log off of the server.
