This is a new experimental course.
It will be based on the SAS publication "Step by Step Programming with Base SAS Software"
We will meet MWF in the SICL lab. Each day will feature hands-on computing to illustrate
the concepts. Our book is 700 pages long so if you want to leave the course with some level
of competence, you will want to do reading on a regular basis. Datesets from the book will
be available at this web site so you can try variations on the programs discussed in the book.
The course is offered on a pass-fail basis. To pass, there are two requirements
(1) Attendance
Each day I will set out a sheet of names.
When you arrive, just put a check mark next to your name.
To pass, you must attend at least 2/3 of the class sessions.
(2) Assignments
I plan to give out a few practive assignments and require that
you turn in results for each assignment that shows you put
some effort into working the assignment.
Goal: My hope is to get everyone familiar enough with basic SAS manipulation
so that they have a good chance of passing the SAS certification exam. I am
told that this book is a good way to prepare for that exam. Also I talk to people
using SAS in industry and want to give you the tools that industry people are
looking for.
