Summer Institute for Training in Biostatistics

We will be holding our SIBS program again June 8 - July 17, 2015!
We will begin accepting applications in December 2014.
The deadline for submitting applications will be March 6, 2015.

Biostatistics is the exciting field that applies statistics to medical and public health research. Biostatisticians work closely with experts from other fields in research teams. Together they seek to answer serious and important questions that affect human health and well being.

The demand for biostatisticians TODAY is greater than ever before, and it is expected to continue to INCREASE in the future.

The Summer Institute for Training in Biostatistics (SIBS), sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), is a 6-week program to give undergraduate students majoring in or with background in the quantitative sciences the opportunity to explore a career in biostatistics. 2014 Program Flyer PDF Document Icon.

Our program has been offered every year since the Summer of 2004. Each year the program was a great success, with over 65% of eligible participants going on to graduate school in the field!

We will host our program again June 8 - July 17, 2015, with an opening dinner/social on June 7. Undergraduate students (including students who will have graduated in Spring 2015) and beginning graduate students who are US citizens or US Permanent Residents are eligible (this is a NIH requirement).

The Program Features...

  • Six weeks living and studying on the campus of North Carolina State University
  • No fees - all expenses covered
  • College credit that can transfer back to participants' home institutions
  • Training with top researchers from the Department of Statistics at North Carolina State University, one of the largest departments of statistics and biostatistics in the country, and Duke Clinical Research Institute, one of the leading academic research institutes in the world.
