"Model Checking, Model Selection, and Random Effects"
ABSTRACT
Hierarchical models incorporating random effects parameters are applied widely in fields like education, medicine, animal breeding, epidemiology. Methods for assessing the fit of hierarchical models are reviewed, focusing on the Gaussian-Gaussian hierarchical model. Simulations are used to demonstrate strengths and weaknesses of various approaches.
