"Estimation of Area in Crops as Alternatives to Coca in the Chapare Region of Bolivia: A Consultant"

ABSTRACT

This paper attempts to illustrate an episode of statistical consulting in enough detail to allow discussion of the doof consulting. It also aims to show how aspects of agricultural survey sample design should be tailored to meet local conditions. For the first objective we describe: (1) what gadgets we carried, (2) our mental preparation, (3) our pre-trip briefing, and finally, (4) the resulting SOW and a failed first-day ploy. For the second objective we offer: (1) the addresses of the sample selections, (2) a critical review of previous surveys, (3) how to deal with nonresponse, (4) dual frame sampling design, and (5) some conclusions.
