"A Collaborative Software Environment for Microarray Data Analysis"

ABSTRACT

The commoditization of microarrays and the nature of the data arising from them has created a clear demand for rigorous statistical analysis. While targeted software is indispensable, it cannot replace the longstanding benefits of personal interaction between scientists and statisticians. What software can do is facilitate collaboration and provide an efficient means for experts to collectively bring their wisdom to bear on the scientific questions at hand. In the context of a Drosophila experiment from the Gibson lab at NC State (Jin et al, Nature Genetics, Dec 2001), we'll describe how such interactions can take place and the critical roles each expert must play to effectively handle inherent difficulties. We'll also provide a preview of some upcoming SAS software, with particular emphases on experimental design, mixed model analysis of variance, and interactive visualization.
