"Futility Analysis in a Large Pivotal Fracture Trial"

ABSTRACT

Osteoporosis has become a major health concern for elder Americans. Each year an estimated 1.5 million people suffer an osteoporotic-related fracture. In this talk, I will present a large, multi-national, double blind, placebo-controlled fracture prevention trial to evaluate anti-fracture efficacy and long-term safety of an innovative once-a-year iv second-generation bisphosphonate. I will introduce the idea of futility analysis, and illustrate how to use conditional power and pre-specified futility boundary to aid the decision making of Data Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB).
