Clay Barker-Statistical Issues That Arise in Testing JMP

Improvements in computer software and hardware continue to change the way that statisticians approach problems. Statisticians are very familiar with packages like SAS, S+, and R for their computing needs. A lesser known GUI based software package from SAS called JMP is strong in visualization and interactivity and is more popular among engineers and scientists. As JMP employees and users, we will highlight how JMP has evolved into a comprehensive tool that statisticians can utilize in teaching, research, and consulting; along with how integration with SAS has led to the JMP Genomics package providing analytical processes for Statistical Genetics, Microarray Analysis, and Proteomics.  We will also discuss our experiences as statistical software testers for JMP, detailing some of our day-to-day testing activities and responsibilities, as well as tools used for testing statistical software.
