Raleigh and Research Triangle

Sister Programs

The Summer Institute for Training in Biostatistics will be housed on the campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, a vibrant city of more than 300,000 people that is also the capital of the state. The city boasts great restaurants, clubs, museums, and an extensive system of bicycle and jogging trails.

Raleigh is also one of the "vertices" of the famed Research Triangle, comprising Raleigh; Durham, home to Duke and North Carolina Central Universities; and Chapel Hill, the site of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, all in a 25 mile radius. Within the "triangle" formed by these three "university towns" is Research Triangle Park, home to companies such as GlaxoSmithKline and IBM, US Government complexes such as the Environmental Protection Agency's major research laboratories and the headquarters of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, and scores of high-tech biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and software companies. The Triangle also includes the town of Cary, with a population of nearly 100,000, the home of SAS, the maker of the most widely-used statistical software in the world.

With a population of over 1.1 million people and a great location within two hours of beautiful beaches and three hours of the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains, the Research Triangle is a major metropolitan area with lots to do! Explore the links below to learn more!
