As one continues down the academic path for a PhD in statistics, it is sometimes difficult to imagine what types of opportunities are out there, what sort of roles you may be asked to play, and what the activities are that an applied statistician performs day to day. I will try to provide some of those answer relative to applied biostatistics. I will describe how I came to be a statistician, the various roles I've had over the years, what I do now, what I look for when I am hiring, and answer as many questions as I can.
