The Take Control of Your Blood Pressure (TCYB) study was a two-year randomized controlled trial of two self management interventions in a 2 x 2 factorial design. Patients (n=636) were randomized to receive either: 1) usual care; 2) bi-monthly tailored nurse-administered telephone intervention targeting hypertension-related behaviors; 3) blood pressure monitoring consisting of measuring blood pressure three times per week, or; 4) a combination of the two interventions. The primary outcome was blood pressure evaluated at six-month intervals over 24 months. This talk will present the analytic strategy and results from the main study. In addition, the effectiveness of each of the intervention arms as compared to usual care within white and non-white subgroups will be explored.
