"Catch Curve and Capture Recapture Models: A Bayesian Combined Approach"
ABSTRACT
Capture-recapture and catch curve data have been used separately to estimate survival rates for many years. First, we discuss implementing the Cormack-Jolly-Seber model, accounting for tag loss, in a Bayesian setting using WinBUGS. We also discuss modeling our Bayesian approach to catch curve data in WinBUGS. We develop a Bayesian approach to combining these two types of data for a single analysis. There are many potential advantages to combining these types of data. We obtain an estimate of site fidelity, which cannot be estimated from either catch curves or capture-recapture data alone. We also discuss the increase in precision obtainable from data when site fidelity is set equal to one. We conclude that there are benefits to combining capture-recapture data with catch curve data.
