Statistics Department Functional Data Analysis

Functional data analysis refers to the area of Statistics where the data are observed in form of curves, surfaces, or realizations from a underlying random process varying over a continuum. In recent years, this field have found many applications in different scientific areas such as genetics, genomics, biomedical studies, chemometrics, epidemiology and finance, among many others. With the recent rise in both popularity and applications of this field, the primary goal of this working group is to provide the interested students and faculties an exposure to recent developments and interesting problems in functional data analysis. This group meets once a month to discuss and work on statistical problems of mutual interest arising in theoretical and practical applications, host seminars, and study current methodological developments in the literature. Meetings are informal, and all interested faculty and students are welcome to participate.
